Bio-Technology Engineering - Lab Facility

Biotechnology Department has seven well-equipped laboratories such as Bioprocess Engg. Lab, Chemical Engineering Lab, Microbiology Lab, Biochemistry Lab, Molecular Biology Lab and Tissue Culture Lab besides a Research and Development (R & D) Lab. The total area of the laboratories is about 950m2. The R & D lab was established during 2011 with funding from Department of Atomic Energy and it was inaugurated by Padmasri Dr. Srikumar Banerjee, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission. The R & D laboratory is equipped with sophisticated instruments such as Gas Chromatograph, state of the art spectrophotometers, fermentors, PCR machine, Gel Documentation system, etc. A major research project on Process Development for Preservation and Value Addition of Jack Fruit was implemented recently with funding from Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Thirteen short term research projects have been completed with funding from Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). The Centre for Biotechnology has two on-going collaborative research projects with Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi. B.Tech student projects are awarded with grant from KSCSTE to carry out their project.
